Congratulations to Emma Roach-Barrette for 1st Place Documentary

Emma Roach-Barrette participated in this year's National History Day competitions and events on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park. She won The American Labor Studies Center, American Labor History prize, which is awarded to an outstanding entry in any category, in either division, that involves American labor history and focuses on an aspect of the efforts of American workers to improve their working conditions including the right to organize and bargain collectively. Emma's documentary, which won 1st place in Kentucky, and now receives this recognition, is titled "Out of the Kitchen and Onto the Picket Line: The responsibility of women to protect miners' rights during the 1973 Harlan coal strike ". She was awarded a $1,000 prize and a medal.
