Arts and Humanities Course Description
Art - A general class, which provides an introduction to basic art concepts, careers in art and art history and appreciation. Basic areas include drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles and architecture. This course may include trips to museums and special exhibits.
Band - The study and performance of quality band music. Class activities emphasize the development of instrument technique, tone production, tuning, fundamentals of music theory, music reading, and listening skills. Band students participate in many musical performances throughout the year including pep band.
Guitar - A beginning guitar class in which students will learn the basic essentials of guitar playing. Prior knowledge of music or guitar playing is not required. This is a beginning class, which will start from scratch.
History and Appreciation of Art - The course History and Appreciation of Visual and Performing Arts includes study of dance, drama, music, visual arts, and literature in discipline based and historical contexts.
Music Theory and Listening - This is a course in how to listen to music and how to read and write music. Students will explore the basic elements of music by listening and analyzing music throughout music history from the Music Ages until present times. Students will look at how concepts developed in previous years have been used in today's music. Students will learn to read and write music and perform that music by learning to play the keyboard (very simple playing).
