The Envirothon Program allows students in the ninth through 12th grades to compete in a competitive problem-solving event focused on environmental topics and Kentucky's natural resources. Students learn about real life environmental problems and how they are solved.
Each team that competes in the Envirothon has five students. Each student aims to become an expert in one of five areas; soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatics and a current environmental issue. These teams go on to compete in a regional events in which they are tested on their knowledge of Kentucky’s natural resources in the five areas. They work in five stations that assess their knowledge of these topics through hands-on experiments, analysis and use of critical thinking skills, the teams answer a set of questions at each station.
