Wetland Restoration Project

 Wetland Restoration Project

On March 22nd, the Beta Club collaborated with the U.S. Forestry service to plant trees to restore Beavercreek wetlands as their community service project again this year. The Envirothon team and Journalism class were invited to participate in this  project as well.  Three weeks before we were suppose to engage in the project, the tornado hit West Liberty and destroyed the tree nursery where the forestry division stored all the seedlings.  Forestry workers dug through the rubble of the demolished nursery and were able to recover the seedlings so the Beta Club could continue in the wetland restoration project as planned.  All that took part in wetland restoration project agree that it was a very rewarding project in itself as it is providing a service to their own community, but knowing that they were planting trees that survived a natural disaster made the effort just more meaningful.  In truth, the project was a great success.  All students worked very hard and planted approximately 400-500 trees!  In addition, Adam Winer, reporter from LEX18 News visited our school to cover the story on March 26th and the story was aired on the evening news (see below the news footage)!

The Beta Club would like to thank the MCHS Site Base Decision making Council for funding this trip for us! To learn more about wetland restoration in Menifee County, visit this link:
